I don’t know about you but I absolutely love listening to the lyrics of songs and seeing how they relate to me and how I’m feeling at that time.
With this is mind I’ve been on a mission to find the perfect kick ass self love playlist that I can play loudly and really appreciate the words being sung.
First up it has to be my fav artist Pink… what an awesome rockstar, she blows my mind with her approach to life and work. Talk about someone living their dream life. The song that really shouts self love to me from her vast repertoire of fabulous music is Fuckin’ Perfect.
The lines I especially love:
“Don’t ever ever feel like you’re less than fuckin’ perfect” and
“you’re so mean when you talk about yourself, you’re so wrong. Change the voices in your head to make them like you instead”
Another rock goddess …. You might start to see a theme here 🙂 Lady Gaga, again someone who is not only talented at writing and singing but also proud to live in her own skin and not give a shit what others think.
Not caring what others think is a daily challenge for me so she’s a real inspiration, the lyrics in Born This Way I love “there’s nothing wrong with loving who you are” are a great reminder that we really should embrace ourselves.
My other guilty pleasure when it comes to music is a good old musical, the Greatest Showman has some classic mood lifting songs but the one that you should really listen to the words of is This is Me sung by the fabulous Keala Settle has the great line “We are glorious, I make no apologies, this is me” How cool would it be to embrace this sentiment all day every day!!
Kelly Clarkson with Stronger and Taylor Swift with Shake it off both get on the list for being damn good songs to sing really loudly to. “You can go your own way” is a great line and title from the classic Fleetwood Mac song and “Get Back Up Again” from the movie Trolls is another great song to sing along to (and dance with a toddler if you’re anything like me 🙂 and I’m Still Standing from the mighty Elton is another song about keeping going.
You might be able to tell from my suggested songs that I’m not up with current music, to be fair you’re lucky a Wiggles classic and a nursery rhyme hasn’t featured but I’m all about listening to what makes you happy. The old me would have been embarrassed about admitting my playlist is far from trendy, but you know what, all these songs makes me happy and I can sing and dance to them…. Isn’t that all that really matters!!
To finish for now it has to be with another Pink song, The Last Song of your Life and the line “when you’re authentic, you’re incredible”
Don’t forget these words and when you’re worrying about who you are or are getting caught up in your own crap just try to think about how powerful being the REAL you is…..
